pink ombre holiday

So happy to share with you, I won my first blog give-away.  I'm so psyched.  I love the blog madebygirl and dared to enter the recent give-away...and guess what? I won! Better yet, I won nate berkus' new book and a beautiful snakeskin box. Definitely made my day a little merrier. See the big announcement at madebygirl.

Don't worry, I'll give you a chance to win something fun next week.  I'm gathering the goods now. Hand-made candles, bracelets, journals... just a few of my favorite things.  More on that soon.

But, for today I thought I'd share a little pink inspiration.  I hadn't shown you the pink ombre art I created for a photo shoot this summer, but I thought I'd share (better late than never, right?). Here's a snap of the finished piece.

I was perusing design blogs yesterday and saw emily henderson's post about decking her home for the holidays.  She designed hers with a navy + pink + gold theme.  It made me think I needed to add a little more punch of pink to my holiday living room.  And then, there it was, the ombre art I had created for a summer shoot (okay, so I was cleaning my guest bedroom which had become the dumping ground for all things prop and photo shoot-related, you know the drill).

I added the ombre art to my mantel.  I happen to have a deep blue accent wall behind my fireplace (love the color, symphony blue by benjamin moore.) So here's the finished holiday mantel...

Sorry, these are just quick iphone pics...but, what do you think?

Here's the DIY steps to create your very own ombre art...
1.  Gather your tools.  Canvas, paintbrushes, water in jar, and paint.  You can create an ombre effect by simply using white and one color (choose a rich, deep tone for best, most dramatic results)…or you can incorporate a few different shades of the same color family.
2.  Place your paint on a palette or plate.  Pour a small amount of your choice color on one end of the palette and then place bits of color combined with white, gradually decreasing intensity of color (more white, less color).
3.    Now, the fun part.  You can be literal about painting stripes of graduated color, or you may opt to blend the color for a different effect.  It depends on the look you’d like to achieve.  Start with the palest color and work your way to the deepest.  Wipe-off your brush in-between strokes if you want more distinctive color definition.
4.   Now view your masterpiece…sign…and display your colorful, ombre-esque creation.
I got the original inspiration & step-by-step know-how from twodelighted.

Hope you enjoyed sharing in my ombre obsession (part 2).  See my original infatuation with the look here. Or, check-out my ombre pin board.

Happy Weekend!!!
