sister style

...or should I say sisters who style?  My twin sister Pam (also a stylist) was in Asheville, NC this month.  Yay me! So happy to see my sister, even if we mixed a little work with fun.

Asheville is beautiful this time of year and we were surrounded by fall colour & sunshine.  Though Pam has spent the majority of her career as a set decorator for films & commercials in New York and Los Angeles... she now resides in Milwaukee. Pam was in Asheville styling a photo shoot for Country Woman Magazine (city girl does country).

The magazine is doing a feature on blogger and author Ashley English.  Check-out Ashley's blog, small measure.  She's all about sustainable living ... and truly is the real-deal.  She is an incredible resource on a myriad of topics, including gardening, baking, bee-keeping...the list goes on. She also writes a "small measure" column for design sponge (check-out her recent post about making homemade chai tea).

While we were in beautiful Asheville, I found out that Asheville is often referred to as "the Paris of the South."  Who knew?  It's a little taste of art, culture, romance... hence a little hint of Paris.  So to be true to the European notion, we decided to dine at Bouchon ... a sweet French bistro with delicious steak frites & a great wine list, plus a farm-to-table philosophy.

Best of all, I was able to re-connect with my sister.  You may view Pam's beautiful work at pamstasneystyle.  She's an amazing stylist & designer.

Here's to more opportunities to work and play together again soon.

Enjoy your weekend all!!!

orange pop

{guest post}

Hi all! It's Mari here, visiting from  Arcadian Home blog, a wonderful place to find beautiful home decor inspirations. A favorite part of my job is being able to visit lovely blogs like BeSoStyle to share some of the great interior design and decorating ideas I discover in my travels around the Internet.

I love this time of year, especially the many glorious hues of fall foliage. Inspired by one of those colors, my guest post today is about pops of orange for fall. I hope these images will inspire you to add touches of this brilliant color to your interior (and exterior) spaces.

Say hello to fall with a bold orange hue at the front door. Flanked by topiaries in massive green pots, this one with brass trim is stunning.
Bring Hermes orange boxes out of the closet and into the foyer for easy pops of orange for fall (or any season.) I also love the gorgeous chunky table, graphic rug and wall art gallery.

An obvious way to bring orange into the kitchen is with decorative accessories and containers. Not so expected, is a brilliantly painted Tolix chair—so perfect!
A white bedroom gets an autumn update with an orange throw and brown and orange pillows. An extra pop of this spicy hue is seen on the desk chair.
This outdoor space is perfect for fall with orange table decorations, big pillows and simple fabric panels. Even the beverages go orange.  Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4  | 5
Are you ready to use orange in your designs? Spruce up your home with some fantastic accent furniture that will work well with any accent colors you choose.

gold pumpkins

So... I thought I should officially join the ranks of the design bloggers by posting a

fall mantel

It seems a trend in the blogging world, so here it is...

{large white vase with leaves is by west elm}

I love white vases (obvi). And have been lovin' the gold + white combo in design lately.  Gilded details are turning up everywhere.  I fell in love with a gold-leaf pumpkin I saw I knew I needed to add a little gold to my fall decor.

Since I wasn't quite patient enough for a gold-leaf project...I just picked-up a little valspar metallic gold spray paint and a few pumpkins.  In a matter of moments I had my mantle heroes - sweet little gilded pumpkins.

I trimmed some beautiful fall maple branches from my yard to add an organic element and some fall colour.  Voila, my mantel is set through Thanksgiving.

I played around with the configuration of props...

and zoomed in for a close-up...

I hope your week is going well and that you're enjoying this fall season.  Seize the day and soak in the good stuff.  Must roast pumpkin seeds soon.

must-have maroon

According to those in the fashion-know, maroon is a major must-have colour for fall

(the word, straight from Rachel Zoe & the zoe report). It got me thinking about the colour - burgundy, bordeaux, maroon, wine...whatever you name it.  I started searching for hints of maroon in interiors and nature for inspiration.  And as always, I love finding small ways to add a pop of trend with little $$ finding a burgundy nail colour or maroon scarf is just the ticket. Here's what I found...

october goodness

Sorry I've been MIA for a bit...
Had a big shoot last week.  All went well.  I was doing more kids rooms...decorating with candy (Yum!)... still have to sort through the bubblegum balls, rock candy, candy necklaces, candy dots...

I brought some orange gerbera daisies home from the shoot to spice-up my mantel...

{gold votives are from west elm}

I just love fall, especially the amazing colours.  I gave-in to an October splurge and bought a bag of caramels and some crisp fuji apples yesterday.  Caramel Apples are in the game plan for the week.

I have a guest post coming soon.  Just wanted to make sure you knew I haven't forgotten you.  Will be sharing more style inspiration soon...

Have an amazing week!
